Created by Jane Owen, Tillich Park is a wooded glade dedicated to Paul Tillich, one of the most influential theologians. The park features a winding path through a grove of tall pines and a sculpture of Tillich by James Rosati, a prominent 20th century sculptor and member of the New York school of abstract expressionists, best known for his sculpture that was located between the Twin Towers of the old World Trade Center.
“Man and nature belong together in their created glory, in their tragedy, and in their salvation,” wrote Tillich, perhaps thinking about New Harmony and its history.
The park was dedicated by Tillich two years before his death. His ashes are interred there.
