On one side, Sara’s Cafe, Bistro & Wine Bar is a friendly, small town coffee shop; on the other, Sara’s is a craft beer and wine bar with a big city feel and small town charm. The two sides are united by their interesting decor, much of it collected by Sara over many years, much of it donated by townsfolk.
“If I love something, I don’t care if it matches or not. I’ll find a place for it,” says Sara. “Some of the pieces are by local artists.”
The coffee shop menu offers what Sara describes as light fare: sandwiches, salads, soups, quiche, cookies, and other deserts.
“I came up with menu by trial and error,” she says. “I let the business tell me what it is. We try a lot of different things. If our customers like it, we keep it on the menu.”
The bar features Harmonie Bier, brewed at Sara’s with the same recipe used by the original Harmonists in the early 19th century.
“It’s a very drinkable beer,” she says. “We have a hard time keeping it in stock.”
Several other beers from Sara’s Raintree Brewing Company are also on tap, including the popular Vale of Kashmir IPA and a rotation of other craft beers including a Red Ale and Chocolate Stout, as well as a wide variety of bottled beers from the U.S. and around the world.
Sara’s wine shop features the both the widest and deepest varieties of wine in Posey County. It can be purchased by the glass or by the bottle. Sara chooses the wine herself and let’s customers taste it before they buy whenever possible.
Mimosas are popular for visitors enjoying a weekend brunch. Carry out is available for both beer and wine. There is often live music on Saturday night.
“I want Sara’s to be warm and inviting for everyone,” says Sara, “no matter what walk of life they come from.”
