For dirt bike racing enthusiasts, Posey County MX runs a series of races from April though September at the 4-H Fairgrounds just outside of New Harmony. Race classes range from little kids on small bikes to adults on big bikes and everyone in between.
The races attract people from all over the try-state, even as far as northern Indiana. People are welcome from anywhere.
“It’s a great family atmosphere,” says PCMX manager Brian Stallings. “Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles come out to watch their kids and loved ones race. A lot of fathers and sons race in different classes.”
“At the end of the year, we have a banquet,” says Stallings. “We track results throughout the seasons and have a point system. It gives the kids a great sense of accomplishment when they earn a trophy. Everybody has a great time.”
The track is well-maintained and fun to ride; with a lot of jumps and hairpin curves to challenge the riders. There’s always a concession stand, and many people turn the race day into a family picnic.
The races are fun between April and September, with at least five events and a few practice days. Those interested can check the Facebook page for the schedule, which is usually available in late February or March; and sign up for the races there.
