Harmonie State Park is a great place to camp. The main campground has 200 sites with electricity and a dump station. It includes a nature center, several playgrounds, a stage, and access to several hiking and biking trails. An Olympic size swimming pool with a water slide is nearby. There is also a youth tent area that hosts groups such as school excursions and rustic cabins available for rent.
In addition to all of the amenities, campers love it’s a nice place to kick back, relax and have a nice camping experience.
The campground is gorgeous. It’s peaceful, miles away from the nearest public road. The bathhouses are clean. It’s safe for kids and there are plenty of things for them to do, including a Nature Center which is a favorite hangout. It has exhibits and a naturalist is there who leads educational hikes and programs.
The campsites are tranquil and spacious – campers are not jammed on top of one another – and there is plenty of room to park the camper off the road. There’s plenty of shade.
Campers can fish in several ponds near the campground or in the Wabash River, where a boat launch ramp is also available. The ponds are stocked with catfish, bluegill and bass. Little Harmonie Pond (pictured) is a great place for kids to get their lines wet. They are almost guaranteed to catch a lot of bluegill.
Anyone can fish there, but a license is necessary, though there are free fishing days which you can find out about by checking the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website. The park has Huck Finn type cane poles that can be borrowed, but you have to bring your own bait and any other fishing necessity. Firewood is available for purchase at the gate.
And there’s always something new. The Friends of Harmonie, a private organization made of people who love the park, and other volunteer groups, constantly works to maintain and improve the park.
