The Red Geranium has been Posey County’s, if not the Tri-State’s, premier fine dining establishment since 1964. It’s dinner menu has something for everybody, with its world class steaks and chops, seafood, chicken, and pasta entrees, all cooked to perfection. It’s weekly lunch and weekend brunch menus feature choices ranging from down home, midwest favorites such as biscuits and gravy to international favorites such as Mediterranean Pasta, Mexican-style Quesadillas, and traditional Brit staple Fish and Chips. The Harmonist Omelet, soft cooked with fresh chives, goat cheese and shitake mushrooms captures both the “New” and “Harmony” in a single dish. The wine list is excellent.
“Basically, we have the same menu as forever, ” says General Manager Peter Nowotny, “with a few changes for modern times. So many people been coming here for so long, they come back and want their favorites. Then we’ve added specials over the years and whatever works has also become part of the regular menu. Now we offer distinct summer and winter menu, as well.”
The atmosphere is as world class as the cuisine. Museum quality art collected over many years by Jane Owen, including work by Picasso, graces the walls of four distinct dining rooms and the bar, which is a work of art itself. The main dining room is light and airy with a large fireplace. The Tillich Room, a modern addition, provides a beautiful view of the lake, seats 45-50 and is a favorite for weddings and other gatherings.. The “Green Gothic” room is a comfortable space that can be rented for meetings or small parties. There is beautiful woodwork throughout. The patio is paradisiacal when the weather is nice, with live music on Friday nights.
